What makes a business headshot exceptional? A headshot that is approachable and warm yet still professional. Personally, I believe it’s all about the eyes and the smile. A genuine smile will create that subtle glimmer in a person’s eyes, making their photo stand out and create that personable feel, as opposed to looking like a stiffly posed mannequin. But, I know how hard it can be to showcase an authentic smile when you have a photographer zooming in on you and telling you to somehow nail the look.
Capturing headshots is a special art and requires experience and expertise. Every photographer is an artist with a unique skillset, and you can’t assume that any professional photographer can instinctively master that perfect balance of personality and professionalism on headshots.

1. What to wear– Your outfit sets the tone. Wear something clean and professional while targeting the industry you are after. I tell my clients to wear something that makes them feel both comfortable and confident. This is a great time to go out and buy a new suit or outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks. Your facial expression and smile will reflect the confidence you feel in your new wardrobe.
2. Relax– I like to spend some time getting to know you and asking questions about your business, work, or industry. Tell me why you love what you do, and why you’re good at it! No need to be humble here – I’d love to know what makes you special in your line of work! Spending some time chatting will help you relax in front of the lens as opposed to the awkwardness of silently posing. While we talk, I’ll guide you through the session so we get several angles and looks.
3. Leave any doubts at the door– I can just about promise this will be the best headshot you’ve ever had! I will help you get in the right mindset to show off the best, most confident version of yourself. You deserve it!
